Slovko is a course for learning Slovak, on this website and in the Slovko app for iPhone. This page says what Slovko keeps about you, why, who else handles it, and how to have it deleted.

Who runs Slovko

Slovko is responsible for your data and decides how it's used. Questions, requests and complaints go through the contact form; we answer within 30 days.

What we keep

Your account

Your email address and how you sign in (email and password, Google or Apple). A password is stored only as a one-way hash. If you sign in with Google or Apple, they give us your email address and, if you allow it, your name and your profile picture's address; with Apple's “Hide My Email” we get a relay address instead of yours.

Your learning

The lessons you've finished and your best scores, your XP, streak and daily goal, your native language, and the words in your review deck with when each is due. This is what lets your progress follow you between devices.

How lessons go

To make the course better we record, for each exercise you answer: which exercise it was, what you typed, picked or built, whether it was right, how long it took and whether the hint was on; which lessons and practice sessions you start, finish or leave; and any problem you report with the flag button. These records carry your account's random ID, not your name or email, and only the Slovko team can read them. They are deleted after 180 days, problem reports after a year.

Speaking exercises

When you record an answer, the recording is sent to ElevenLabs, which turns it into text. We don't keep the audio. We keep the sentence you were asked to say, the text that was heard, how it was graded, the recording's format, size and loudness, and your browser's or app's version string, to find where speaking practice goes wrong; and a daily count of your recordings, for the usage limit. These stay with your account.

Purchases

Payments go through Stripe; we never see your card. We keep your Stripe customer ID, your subscription's status and renewal date, and which courses you've bought.

Messages to us

What you send through the contact form: your name, email address and message, the language you use Slovko in, your account if you're signed in, and a scrambled (one-way hashed) form of your IP address, used only to stop spam.

On your device

Slovko keeps a copy of your progress and settings (language, volume, hints, reminder time) on your device, holds lesson records there until they're sent, and keeps copies of pages, pictures and audio so lessons work offline. Signing in uses cookies to keep you signed in. There are no advertising or tracking cookies. In the app, daily reminders are scheduled on your phone itself; no server sends them.

What we don't do

We don't sell your data, show ads, track you across other sites or apps, or use outside analytics services.

Who else handles it

These companies process data for Slovko, only to provide their part of it:

  • Supabase stores the database and runs sign-in. Its sign-in records include IP addresses, kept for security.
  • Vercel hosts the website. Its servers see your IP address and keep request logs for a short time.
  • Stripe takes payments on the website and keeps the records the law requires.
  • ElevenLabs turns speaking answers into text. It also voices the course's audio, from the course's own sentences only.
  • Google and Apple sign you in if you choose them; Apple also delivers the app.

Some of them process data outside the European Union, mainly in the United States, under the safeguards their data processing terms provide.

Why we may use it

Your account, progress, purchases and speaking answers: to give you the course you signed up for. Lesson records, speaking records and the spam check: our legitimate interest in improving the course and keeping it working and safe. Reminders: your consent, which your phone asks for and you can withdraw in its settings or in your Profile.

How long we keep it

Your account and learning data: until you delete your account. Lesson records: 180 days, problem reports a year. Messages to us: as long as we need them to answer you, and deleted sooner if you ask. Payment records: as long as Stripe and tax law require.

Your rights

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, get a copy of it, correct it, have it deleted, or object to how we use it. Write to us through the contact form. Deleting your account deletes your progress, review deck, lesson records and speaking records; payment records stay with Stripe as the law requires. If you're in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your data protection authority.

Children

Slovko isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly keep their data.

Changes

When this policy changes, we update this page and its date. If a change matters for how your data is used, we'll tell you in Slovko before it applies.
